You'd think it would be hard to mistake Serena Williams for Beyonce.
But editors at the Chicago Tribune did just that, according to veteran journalist David Mills, who just launched a "Misidentified Black Person of the Week" section on his blog. Apparently," Mills told us, "they showed a picture of Serena Williams with the group Destiny's Child in the sports section and identified her as Beyonce."
Sure, a certain newspaper recently confused brothers Luke and Owen Wilson, who are white.
But more mixups happen with images of African Americans, maintains Mills, who started keeping track of media screwups in his years as a reporter for The Washington Post. "I'm trying to keep an eye out for how much this happens with white celebrities, too," he told us. "All I can say is that when I Googled 'correction' and 'photo, misidentify,' the black ones came falling into my lap." (source)
